This tour will take you to two of our most famous
waterfalls. First we fly deep into the tropical rainforest,
over river of different colours and trees of varying hues
to the 226 m Kaieteur Falls the highest single-drop
waterfalls in the world. We well hike the rainforest from
view the falls from several vantage points that offer excellent
photo opportunities. We will then fly further into the interior
to the border with Brazil where we will stop for lunch and
s swim in the Orinduik Falls. This wide multi-layered waterfalls
thunders endlessly over shelves of red semi-precious jasper
rocks creating fascinating carvings in the river walls refreshing
after your day in the sun.
Essequibo
& Mazaruni
An early start to this day will take us by bus
to the departure point of the small market town of Parika.
From here we will take an open boat up the mighty Essequibo
River. Our first stop will take us to an Old Dutch Fort
where artifacts are still being found onto this day. After
a tour of the Fort we will head off for a visit to a “River
Beach” called Saxacalli. Further up the river we meet
the junction of the Mazaruni River and visit the frontier
town of Bartica. Bartica is the hub of activities and
recreation of miners who work the many gold and diamond
claims of the interior.
Then further up the river, we pass through both rapids
and still waters to the site of our Picnic Lunch. We take
some time for a short hike through the Rainforest, to
a wonderful (if chilly) inland waterfall where the adventurous
may climb the falls for a refreshing dip in a Natural
pool, with howler Monkeys and Parrots chattering overhead.
Then we take a leisurely trip down the river with the
sun on our backs…a fine end to a fine day
Santa
Mission
You
will depart in the morning and cross the Demerara River
to Enter the Kumuni Creek. Your trip in an open boat
will take you past homestead Farms carved out of the
wilderness, and past stations where tropical fishes
are trapped for overseas Markets and alongside Amerindian
fishing in the Coco Cola colored waters. You will marvel
at the varied Vegetation and see tropical plants that
are twenty feet high compared to the same ones that
you have in your home in pots an your window sill. The
bird’s overhead will guide you long until you reach
your destination, Santa Mission,
A typical Amerindian village.
We will stop for A Picnic Lunch and a swim in the “Black”
waters of the Creek. In the afternoon we will introduce
you to the “Captain or Chief” of the village and tour
you through the settlement, learning about the culture
and activities of the village. There is a small craft
Cooperative where you will find locally produced Baskets
and Woodenware. A final dip into the waters and then
we will head homewards along the same route that will,
as with all trips into the interior, be an entirely
different trip than the one earlier in the day. A return
over the Demerara River with the sun setting and a quick
drive onto Georgetown will have you back in time for
Dinner at your Hotel.
